In 2008, the extraordinary Monika S. Jones won a scholarship to WLHB founder Amanda Castleman’s weeklong Writing Rome workshop. Now she’s paying it forward and funding a spot in the Travel Writing Master Class starting 9/11, as she celebrates defending her PhD!

Jones studied at the Central European University, before undertaking a communication and science studies doctorate at the University of California, San Diego. She has edited at Catalyst Journal, designed courses for a global library cooperative, and researched for the Wikimedia Foundation. Recently, she’s served as an adjunct lecturer for the alma mater she shares with Castleman: the University of Washington.

“I was SO moved and grateful to have the tuition wavier when I participated in the Rome Travel Writing Class,” Jones said. “I’d like to donate a scholarship so another student can participate in one of your learning programs focused on the magic and craft of travel writing.”

Write Like a Honey Badger is thrilled to announce the Monika S. Jones Scholarship is available for the autumn 2020 session! It is open to all applicants who couldn’t otherwise afford this ten-week online program.

The school also reserves one free spot for a BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ or non-binary author.

Eligible? Please apply by midnight Pacific on 9/9!
